One year from today, on June 9, 2022, Canada will welcome international philatelists, exhibitors, philatelic societies and trade members for the opening of CAPEX 22, the world’s first International One Frame Stamp Championship Exhibition to be held in Toronto June 9-12, 2022.

CAPEX 22 will continue the tradition of the four World Philatelic Exhibitions and two International Youth Exhibitions held in Canada since 1951. It will also be held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) situated at the base of the iconic CN Tower and in the heart of Toronto’s downtown entertainment district. CAPEX 22 will be the world’s first International One Frame Stamp Championship Exhibition, and with 400-plus exhibits, the most significant showing of one frame exhibits ever. CAPEX 22 will also offer a philatelic literature class with a wonderful array of printed and digital literature in competition.

CAPEX 22 International One Frame Stamp Championship Exhibition will be held under the Patronage of the Federación Interamericana de Filatelia (FIAF) and the Recognition of the Fédération Internationale de Philatélie (FIP). Canada’s stamp society – The Royal Philatelic Society of Canada (RPSC) – is hosting CAPEX 22.

Today we are launching the first issue of the CAPEX 22 newsletter, which will be distributed internationally to our subscribers, participants, and supporters regularly by email. This inaugural issue seeks to provide an overview of the planning to date, and future issues will give greater detail and announcements regarding different aspects of the CAPEX 22 exhibition. Be sure to invite your fellow collectors to sign up for this free newsletter. Just send them this link.

Toronto Venue

Premier exhibition space was leased in March 2020 in the 100 level of the North Building of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) at 255 Front Street West in downtown Toronto. The facilities leased include the 28,000-sq-ft Constitution Hall, 9,000-sq-ft of multi-configuration meeting rooms and over 9,000-sq.-ft of pre-function area. Recently, we added additional meeting room space at the Intercontinental Hotel, which is adjacent to the MTCC, for the jury room and show administration offices allowing for the expansion of the bourse area in the main hall.

The MTCC venue is a five-minute walk from Union Station, the downtown Toronto Hub for the Toronto subway, streetcar and transit bus system, the GO commuter train system, the UP express rail service between Union Station and Pearson International Airport and the national Via rail train service. Passenger’s arriving from Toronto’s Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport located on the Toronto Islands, just offshore from downtown Toronto, have only a 15-minute shuttle ride to the MTCC. Toronto’s major league sports teams in baseball, basketball and hockey all play at stadiums and arenas within a five to 10-minute walk away. Live theatre and concert venues, as well as major attractions including the CN TowerRipley’s AquariumHockey Hall of Fame, are also less than a 10-minute walk away. The Toronto waterfront amenities and the Toronto islands are easily accessible.

CAPEX 22 Website

The CAPEX 22 website www.capex22.org will be the primary information source for the exhibition, events and activities associated with the exhibition. Currently, the website focuses on exhibiting, the bourse and attending societies.

All applications to exhibit at CAPEX 22 must be entered via the online entry form on the website. This applies to both one frame exhibits and philatelic literature exhibits. The philatelic Literature exhibit information form, which, is typically a separate form, is integrated into the entry form. The exhibit introduction page and the optional synopsis page can be uploaded with the application form.

All FIP members and any FIAF members who are not members of FIP have been invited to participate and assign a national commissioner and nominate three judges. We recognize not all countries have a large one frame exhibiting community and encourage those countries to consider sharing commissioners. Where countries share a commissioner, each exhibitor will be recognized in the exhibition catalogue and Palmares books under his/her country of residence.

Capex 22 is planning an 86-booth bourse which is now sold out. A major live auction by R. Maresch & Son will also be held at CAPEX 22. The Maresch family has supported every CAPEX international exhibition since the first CAPEX in 1951, and we are pleased to have their support and participation again for CAPEX 22.

Philatelic societies have been invited to attend CAPEX 22 and participate in seminars, meetings and receptions either for their members or for the public. Individual societies will also be featured on the website and other media leading up to the exhibition.
